At this time of year we’re inundated with countdowns and lists of the best songs, films, outfits and moments of 2011. So today the Lazy Oaf team are letting you know what our best discoveries were this year. Please let us know yours too!
GEMMA: THINK PINK
This year I discovered pink hair dye. This discovery came after a disastrous accident at Gemma’s Salon (my bathroom) where my bezzy mate Sarah tried to bleach my hair for the quintessential dip dye look but instead I ended up looking a bit like a badger. So the only saving grace was applying tonnes of pink hair dye and I have continued to do this regularly for the rest of the year. I use Pink Moon dye by Fudge.
ALEX: MERV MAGIC
I have been desperate to buy a dog forever and this year I finally did it! Meet Merv the French Bulldog. At the moment he is a sleeping, chewing and pooing machine but I love him to bits.
GILL: QUEEN OF THE KINDLE
My best discovery this year was the Amazon Kindle. It’s amazing, it fits in your handbag and is really light so you can take it anywhere. The best book I have read on it this year has been Gillespie and I by Jane Harris.
JERRY: FROZEN PLANET APPRECIATION
I usually only watch trashy TV but this year I finally found an educational television programme that blew my mind each and every week – FROZEN PLANET! In 7 episodes I laughed, cried, gasped and hid behind my cushion. My favourite scene was watching the male Polar bear retrace his female suitors foot prints in his quest to find love. I’m welling up even thinking about it.
SHEVONE: BIKE BABE
In 2011 I discovered personal endurance after surviving and completing a two day 120 mile bike ride across the UK on a diet of Wine Gums and flapjacks. We followed the Hadrian’s Wall cycleway and the highlight was cycling in a tunnel under the River Tyne in Newcastle – it felt like being in underground tube, only without the trains. Next year I’ll be upping the anti and cycling from London to Paris!
STEPH: BIRD BEATS
My best pick of the year is this video to Staring Out the Window by Fulton Lights. I love a good pigeon with their awkward movements and gammy feet, so this video of them singing, dancing and pretending to fly has brightened many a day this year.
My best find of 2011 has gotta be these Jeffery Campbell Tapestry Platforms. Who wouldn’t want shoes COVERED IN CATS. They’re a dream come true. I like to think I will still wear these when I’m 75 and have hundreds of cats all for myself.
ZOE: PIN ME DOWN
Pinterest is a sort of virtual pin board, where you can pin photos, recipes, website pages, anything really, to look at later. I discovered this incredible site in 2011 and I’ve become obsessed with creating pin boards, and pinning new things on to them. I fear that in 2012 my friends and family may have to stage an intervention as I spend every free second on this website….
JADE: THE REGULAR SHOW DOWN
In 2011 I turned 20, had a quarter-life crisis and watched too many cartoons, The Regular Show was definitely my best discovery, this or burgers you cook in the toaster, (gross/amazing).
So there are our discoveries, now it’s your turn to share yours.
We know you’re all busy thinking about Christmas, but what comes after Christmas? Spring of course! And with spring comes our spring/summer 2012 collection gracing our site and store from February.

We have a whole range of gifts, small and big so whether you’ve got stockings to fill, secret Santas to pull off or main presents to buy then you’ll definitely find something in our store that fits the bill.
We’re thrilled to be stocking an array of handmade chocolate lollies bought to us by Creighton’s Chocolaterie. These trolls above have particularly warmed our wintery hearts.

This is the perfect last minute stocking filler or Christmas present bulker and no one has to find out how cheap it was. Plus, at £1.00, it would be rude not to treat yourself to one too.

We’ve definitely let the Christmas spirit go to our heads today as we have decided to give you 50% off all of our Christmas cards with the hope that more of you might decide to send them out to friends far and wide.

In your face Scrooge!
PLEASE NOTE: The Lazy Oaf office will be CLOSED from Friday 23rd December 2011 – 2nd January so all orders placed during this period will not be dispatched until January 3rd.
Last Friday the girls in our office felt a bit deflated as we simply weren’t feeling Christmassy enough. Determined to not to be another Scrooge or receive coal in our stocking, we decided to do everything we could to get into the festive spirit and it’s really worked!
So if you’re still not feeling the Christmas magic then read on and follow these 6 simple steps.
WEAR A CHRISTMAS JUMPER
There is no better way of stepping into Christmas then throwing on a festive jumper like Snoop Dogg has done so well above. Shevone at Lazy Oaf is rocking a particularly spectacular one in the office today and it is really doing the trick.
BUY AND DECORATE A TREE
When you’re living away from your parents it can be easy to neglect your Christmas tree desires but believe us when we say this is the ultimate remedy to heal your humbug heart. One of our Facebook fans posted this amazing one decorated with our Peekaboo Bobble Hat and jewellery bag.
SET A FESTIVE DESKTOP BACKGROUND
If you work in an office like us then the chances are you’ll be sat at your desk working like elves over the next fortnight so you might as well make it merry by setting a magical desktop background. This tartan-tastic fluffy pup one is currently rocking our Christmas stockings off.
SEND YOUR FRIENDS A CHRISTMAS CARD
If you haven’t done it yet then today is the time to start sending your Christmas cards out. Our Congratulations design is perfect for those of you who’ve neglected your pen pals in recent years.
GET THE FESTIVE TUNES ON
They’re taking over TV ads, shopping centres and radio stations and now it’s your to bless your ears with the very best Christmas tunes. And there are some really good albums out there, we’ve been enjoying Christmas with Elvis, Michael Buble and The Jackson Five in our studio.
WATCH EVERY CHRISTMAS FILM
No one gets more excited about Christmas than a child so now is the time to regress to your youth, release your inner kid and watch all of our favourite festive flicks. Nothing does the job quite like Elf, and Muppets Christmas Carol for a proper good singalong.
What have you been doing to get into the Christmas spirit this year? We hope it involves eating lots of Mince pies and Quality Street.
