There’ll be live catwalk shows down the length of Carnaby Street (keep you’re eye out for Oaf pieces), Company Magazine’s editor is heading down to give insider trend advice, there’ll be the official unveiling of the new Vivienne Westwood Lee Jeans collaboration and our friends American Apparel, Gola, Vans and many more all have massive exclusive discounts running just for this special day. These are discounts you won’t see again for a very long time.

To get you in the spirit for our style trial, the Lazy Oaf ladies thought we’d let you in on who we consider to be our favourite style icons. Read on for some right treats and let us know if you have anymore to add.

ZOE: JENNY LEWIS

My style icon changes constantly (some may say I am a very fickle person because of this) but my current idol is singer Jenny Lewis. Mostly because of her beautiful hair, which I have attempted to replicate using various shades of hair dye to no avail, but also because we share a penchant for beautiful vintage dresses. I’d give anything to raid her wardrobe. Oh, and she makes some pretty lovely music too.

ALEX: DARIA

I am not too sure who I’d pick as my style icon but people often tell me I look like teen cartoon character Daria which can only be good thing right?!

STEPH: GRANS OF BRITAIN

They have no shame left to lose and just wear whatever they want. The more floral print layers the better.

GEMMA: MIXED BAG OF GEMS

Basically if you could amalgamate soap actresses, 80s oversized comediennes, all the Disney characters and early 1900’s  children’s wear you get my style influences. Eclectic but it works. I have been considering a perm lately.

JERRY: GOTHIC TEEN HEROINES

I don’t know what’s happened to me lately but my most overused phrase is ‘everything looks better in black’. Since I got my hair cut, comparisons to The Craft and Lydia Deetz (Beetlejuice) have been frequent and I have also gone back to wearing my hair in plaits (see Wednesday Addams). Cheer up goff? No thanks!

ELLIE: BARBARA ‘BABS’ WINDSOR (1961-1975)

Although my bleach blonde hair is now a distant memory, the only person that makes me grit my teeth in envy and regret is Babs Windsor and her tower of platinum locks. Any lady who tries to gain height inches with their huge hair has my instant respect. But my love affair is down to more than hair. Its the late sixties mini skirts and polo necks and the high wasted bikinis, carry-on camping style. Plus she always seems to have a drink in her hand and having a ball. She makes me proud to be British, no wait, she makes me proud to be short.

KATIE: BJORK, VIVIENNE WESTWOOD AND HELENA BONHAM CARTE

Each of them have there own distinct style and under no circumstances do they care what anyone else thinks of them, they like to mix it up and throw in that odd ball item, some more often that others. I am lucky enough to see VW on the tube in London as she lives near me, she still manages to out do everyone by looking polished and well put together even early on a Wednesday morning. If I look half that good I’m happy.

If you want to feature in our next style blog then make sure you come on down to our shop in your Oaf items next Saturday 11th and become the fashion icons of the future!

Drawing Amongst Shoppers in Selfridges

Posted by: Jerry

Last Saturday 28th August, The Lazy Oaf Drawing Club traveled to Oxford Street’s Selfridges to bring you another installment of live drawing. Our very own designer Gemma Shiel teamed up with illustrating talents and brothers Richard and Chris Fairhead to fill their own 2m wall in drawings beyond your wildest dreams.

Here are Chris (left) and Richard (right) working on their doodles skills armed with plenty of black Poscas.

No Oaf art trip would be complete without one of our In the Mix Rucksacks packed full of all of our drawing neccessities.

Alongside the live drawing, customers were able to get their hands on some of our best mens T-shirts available in Selfridges stores across the country.

We also set up a table full of blank frames ready for you to fill with your own pieces of artwork and we had some excellent contributions.

All of your doodles were displayed on the frame work of the mens till point for all to see!

Chris Fairhead.

Fresh graduate Chris Fairhead created his own illustrated totem pole including some beady eyed tree stumps and a flock of friendly birds topped up with an impressive phoenix.

Richard Fairhead

Richard Fairhead filled his wall with a fantasia of his signature geometric patterns combined with crazed cartoon characters, a colonel skeleton and a floppy faced dog.

Gemma Shiel.

Gemma Shiel.

Gemma Shiel built up a colourful wall of collaged patterns and beings with a rude boiii riding a unicorn, a melancholic clown and some shiny sharp nails.

Thank you to all of you who came along and watch the drawing magic unfold. Long live the Lazy Oaf Drawing Club!!!

A Drawing Bromance with Richard and Chris Fairhead

Posted by: Jerry

This Saturday 28th August, Lazy Oaf Drawing Club is hitting Oxford Street’s Selfridges and we have the honour of working with two very fine London illustrators Richard Fairhead and Chris Fairhead. So we thought we’d give you an insight into what you can expect to see on the day.

For any Lazy Oaf regular, you will know Richard has been on our radar for sometime. He designed our favourite satirical tote bag ‘Rainbows are shit‘ and allowed us to route through his studio and home in Brixton for our Through the Keyhole feature. Here are some of our favourite examples of his work; we particularly like his latest series of unused quotes (see E.T example below)

Richard’s tote bag is available online now and you can see more of his work on his site at www.richfairhead.co.uk.

Drawing talent must run in the family as Richard’s younger brother Chris Fairhead produces his very own collection of colourful, graphic illustrations. We were introduced to Chris’ work after coming across his LIVID drawing of the Incredible Hulk in his brothers studio and thought getting the two of them on board to work side by side each other this Saturday would be a winning combo.

Get an eyeful of more of Chris’ designs at http://harshbut.blogspot.com/

To see these two guys in actions, be sure to pop on down to London’s Selfridges on Oxford Street this Saturday from 12-6pm in the mens sport and street department and expect beautiful things to emerge before your very eyes.

Lazy Oaf Drawing Club hits Selfridges

There is nothing we love more at Lazy Oaf than drawing so when our menswear stockist Selfridges asked us to host a live drawing event within their store this Saturday 28th August, we knew what the answer was! Yes of course and, yet again, you too can be involved.

To celebrate the launch of our men’s collection in store, this Saturday we are going to be working our drawing magic in Oxford Street’s Selfridges within the men’s Sport and Street department located on the first floor.

Come along to see live drawing from talented brothers Richard Fairhead and Chris Fairhead as well as Lazy Oaf’s very own drawing genius Gemma Shiel. The trios doodles will follow the theme of pattern so expect to see them create a patchwork of stripes, dots, dashes and whatever other delights they dream up on the day.

Alongside the live drawing there will be a table of colourful sheets ready for you to fill with your very own patterned pieces to pin up within the menswear department. So if you want to see your doodles displayed beside the high fashions of the UK’s most innovative department store then here is your chance.

As our mens T-shirt collection will be on sale, we will be giving out free tote bags to all of you who purchase one of our designs on the day.

If you would like to find out more then feel free to us an email at jerry@lazyoaf.com and we really hope to see you there.

Our Team Portraits up in Tate Modern

Posted by: Jerry

As many of you will know, the Sunday before last we put on a live drawing event at Tate Modern where we asked you to come along and draw your own self portraits. As far as we were aware, you were all drawing pictures of yourselves or each other however we spotted a bit of a pattern emerging. Once the crowds started to calm down, the Oaf team took some time out to have a look at all of your work and quickly discovered that many of your drawings showed a real resemblance to our own staff members. Some of these, we think you’ll agree, were uncanny.

SHEVONE

With the blunt fringe, black locks, red lippie and defined eye liner, it is hard to believe that this portait isn’t of our very own Shevone.

ALEX

ZOE

KATIE

GEMMA

OK so our designer Gemma doesn’t have a curly tash, massive mono-brow and a hair style to make Johnny Rotten proud however she does have a taste for rainbow shirts.

JERRY

ELLIE

It was this drawing that originally alerted us to the idea of this blog as the hair was a perfect match to our lovely shop manager Ellie.

Talk about dead ringers eh?
